Baby's First Sleepover!

Evey had her first sleepover with her cousins at Grandma and Grandpa's house! Due to the mammoth snow storm (well... from Evey's perspective it was mammoth) and Ian working out of town, we decided to spend the night at Grandma and Grandpa's house - to be surrounded by family and for the chance to "hibernate" around the fireplace! Her cousins were thrilled to have "Baby Evey" spend the night. Aliyah took special care of making a bed for us on the couch and by sharing her rocking baby chair with Evelyn.

Evelyn woke up this morning to Grandpa making pancakes - hotcakes on the griddle with maple syrup and lots of whipped cream - and cappuccinos for everyone in the house! She observed the finer points of preparing the batter and how to achieve an even heat on the griddle.

Christian did a great job watching over Evey as she was waking up from her morning snooze by singing Old Macdonald "at least five times"! Aliyah and Preston did a great job reading to her while she was feeding too.

Before lunch, she watched her first movie with Aliyah and Preston - Madagascar 2! Those funny monkeys and dancing lions!

Happy Two Month Birthday!

On Sunday, Evelyn was Two months old! We can't believe how quickly the time has flown by... yet it seems like she has always been a part of our lives.

For her birthday, we finally hung her mobile over her cradle and hung up a quilted duck wall hanging. She loves these new things to look at!! The other morning I heard her waking up, yet she didn't cry out for me... when I checked on her, she was happy and intently watching the birds bounce and spin on her mobile!

Another new development: She can now grab at her rattle! I was shaking the rattle in front of her and she put on her "determined and concentrating" look, stuck her little tongue out and started reaching for the rattle. You could just see the wheels turning as she was trying to coordinate her hand and eye to grasp the object in front of her. At first, she would wave around until her hand bumped the rattle. She would grab it and hold on tightly. After a few more times of this, she would hit the rattle more often and would then wave the rattle around when she caught it!

She is also very charming in her new expressions!

She will mimic faces that we make - such as sticking her tongue out! For the better part of a day, she was constantly sticking her tongue out! Grandpa gave her a taste of grapefruit... she enjoyed experiencing a new flavor!

So many new things! So many beautiful new dresses to wear (She wore her Red Dress for her birthday... and because it was a Sunday I figured I might as well get her dressed up for church).

First Day of Daycare Blues

Today is the first day of Daycare...

We decided to bring Evelyn to a half day of daycare before I go back to work so I could figure out the routine of getting ready - what I need to pack/bring to daycare, how long it takes to get there... and how to let her go (for the daytime at least).

The idea was for me to practice getting ready and pretend I was trying to go to work. How did it turn out??

For starters, Evey was up for about two hours in the middle of the night and so I "slept" through my alarm this morning. Actually, I heard the alarm, pulled the covers over my head and promptly ignored it. I woke up an hour later than I wanted to and woke Evey up (she was just as sleepy as I was). I fed her and changed her in about half an hour. Then let her play in her cradle while I got ready in five minutes plus another five minutes to get her diaper bag ready for daycare.

She was happy and cheerful this morning and didn't cry when I put her in her carseat. She babbled away while I prepared a few bottles for her, grabbed my coat, work bag, diaper bag, wallet, phone and keys... and carried her out to the car. (Side note... I vow to keep my computer at work... there was so much I was carrying and it was all heavy!!). All in all, we left the house almost an hour after I intended and it took us almost 15 minutes to get to daycare. (I will try other routes to find a quicker way).

We made it to daycare and Joanne was so happy to meet Evey and she started talking to Evey right away. Evey stared at her with her big blue eyes, gave her smiles and started "talking" by moving her hands all around!!! She was totally comfortable with Joanne and it made leaving a lot easier. She even waved her hand bye-bye at me as I left.

Other than waking up late... I think I have a handle on what it takes to get out the door and hopefully Monday will be better. I also feel like we made a great decision with choosing Joanne for daycare! We'll see how I feel at 12:30 when I pick her up.

Grandpa's Farm

We have a little traveller in our midst!! We just returned from our first roadtrip with Evey. We travelled to Grandpa Jim's farm by Lake Superior. Thankfully I had Caitlin with me in the car to help us through the few fussy moments!!


We were visiting daddy who will be working up north for the month of March. Evey, Auntie Caitlin and I had a fabulous long week driving around the bay and walking around the little towns. Evey was entertained by the ceiling fans in the Chequamegon Bookstore. She also visited her first library! We read lots of stories and I can tell that storytime will be a big hit over the years. Otherwise, we enjoyed the peace and quiet and relaxed pace of life up north!

Daddy had his first night watching Evey while Auntie Cat and I cross country skied a 10k across Lake Superior! They had their special daddy-daughter time; dancing to everything from The Greatful Dead to Brian Setzer Orchestra. Practicing dance moves for the future daddy-daughter dance at CDH!

We had such a nice time- I think we will try to make it up again for a few more days before I head back to work.

Evey goes to Washington D.C.

Mommy, Evelyn and Grandmommie Roxannie went on a trip to Washington D.C.! Mommy had an Architecture Conference so Grandma came along to watch Evey.



On Thursday and Friday Grandmommie and Evey had wonderful adventures visiting the Capitol, walking around the Mall, seeing the Washington monument and looking at the White House from the Ellipse. They also visited more of the Smithsonian Museums than mom has been to!


On Saturday we met up with Cousin Connor and traversed the Downtown, Mall and Chinatown while enjoying mild late winter temperatures! We visited the American Indian museum - Evey enjoyed the art of Fritz Scholder. It was nice to find a quiet window seat corner of the museum to play with a fussy Evey until it was time to leave!

Happy Six Weeks Evey!

Evey is six weeks old already! I can't believe how quickly the time flies and how much she has grown and developed. She is absolutely charming and beautiful! Evelyn will smile at us and is beginning to coo and "talk" to us.

We were visiting cousin Eli tonight and while he was playing the ABCs on his music table, Evey was wiggling all around on the floor "dancing" to the music!! It was so cute!

For the first time, she is entertained by her mobile and pays close attention to Mr. Frog too. I also think she is remembering the stories I read to her because she will start making the hands and feet movements to the "action" books. Her favorites are Let's Dance Little Pookie, Pat-a-cake, ABCs and the book of "Baby's First Words".

Good news today - we brought her in for a weight check and the Doctor is happy with her progress! We can stop supplementing formula/milk at night because she has picked up her momentum with weight gain and growth. She's already 22 1/2 inches tall and is now 8 pounds 2 1/2 ounces! Yippee!
