Peek-a-boo...

Peek-a-boo... I see you!

Evelyn is five months old now! She is so curious and loves to play!! She is getting close to sitting up on her own - she "tripods" herself and then flops forward as she pulls her hands up to her mouth! She rolled over from her back to her belly yesterday. This is a big deal... lots of growth developmentally/cognitively! She will see a toy or rattle that she wants and will squirm, twist/turn and roll over until she reaches it. She is even learning that if the rattle is on her blanket out of reach, she can bring it closer by pulling on the blanket.

Unbeknown to me, Evelyn has been able to "feed" herself for quite some time! I was giving her the bottle when she reached both little chubby hands up, held the bottle herself and was even pulling the bottle out of her mouth to let the air out of the nipple! I couldn't believe it! I called Ian in to the room to show him... to the response of "oh yeah, she's been doing that for me for quite some time"!

Dinner time has continued to be fun - Evelyn has been trying new foods such as carrots and enjoys playing with the spoon and feeding herself.

The other day, I captured a short sound-clip of Evey giggling and laughing non-stop! I sneezed as I was changing her and she started to giggle. Then I "fake sneezed" and she continued to laugh. It was so joyful to hear her!!

The feet are now a permanent fixture in her mouth... it is amazing how she is able to wrap herself up like a little pretzel and suck on her toes!! Diapering can be a challenge as she refuses to put her feet back down... She is so cute!!!

Flowers

Evelyn loves flowers!! The lilacs are in full bloom and peak the curiosity of our little one! The weekend brought us fun times in the sun!

Such a Big Little Girl!

Evelyn is becoming such Big Little Girl!! Here is a top Five List of the latest and greatest:

1. Evelyn wore her first pair of Osh Kosh B'Gosh overalls!! The pink and white stripes are so cute. As soon as she had them on, she looked as though she could crawl away...

2. The exersaucer is put to use... she had a blast playing with the spinning toy. It kept her entertained for quite a while!!

3. Last night was her first night in the Crib!! She slept through the night and woke up chattering away this morning. I think she enjoys the extra space!!

4. She has continued to practice sitting up... it won't be long now!!

5. Everything goes into the mouth... her overalls, her hands, her flower pictures, mommy's hand. If it is reaching range, it goes straight to the mouth!

Like a chirping morning bird...

I woke up this morning to happy chatter and chirping coming from the nursery... like a little morning songbird!

Evey woke up and was perfectly content with playing in her cradle, chattering away to her bird mobile, looking around her room and practicing her new sounds and voice. When I fully woke up and walked in to her nursery, she craned her neck around and gave me a huge smile!

What a beautiful start to the day!!

Dolly and Toes

Evelyn loves her new doll! She talks to her, watches her dance, hugs her when she sleeps (in her carseat)... she is attracted to the eyes and she tastes great too!

In addition, toes are the new greatest enjoyment! I think Evey grew overnight and her legs are so long! She will grab at her feet and toes and try to roll over. She helps me with diaper changing by lifting her legs WAY UP!!

So cute! She is our constant joy and entertainment!

I like to eat, eat, eat... rice and bananas!!

I like to eat, eat, eat... rice and bananas (do you have the Raffi tune in your head?)!!! We started feeding Evelyn Rice Cereal and bananas last week. She has done really well with food - started by tonguing the food and getting a feel for the texture and most of it ended up on her chin. Then she started grabbing at the spoon and shoving it in her mouth, banging it on the side of her swing chair and handing it back to us for more!!

We've been teaching her how to open wide - "Open your mouth and say AHHH" and she gives us a huge smile, laughs and opens her mouth.

The rice cereal seems to be ho, hum boring... and mixing it with bananas is a greater appeal. It isn't so great tasting when mixed with formula... that could have been part of the "un-appeal". On Sunday I gave her some Oatmeal cereal and she thought that was a bit better. Later in the week we will try Squash or Sweet Potato.

She is becoming more independent and learning how to control objects.
Similar to her grabbing the spoon and putting it in her mouth, she has "assisted" us in dressing her by pulling at her pants to pull them up and pulling at her socks. She is grabbing at everything!
