more firsts...

Well... I suppose within each story of "firsts" and new and great strides, there will be moments where we pause and wish things would slow down.  Evey had her first trip to the ER yesterday evening, her first stitches and her first popsicle.

She fell and bonked her lip on the door frame when she was walking and cruising last night.  She split her lower lip open.  It was a very traumatic phonecall to receive from Ian saying that she split her lip open.  We coordinated efforts and met down at Urgent Care only to have them look at it and say they didn't feel comfortable doing the stitches on her lip.  They sent us to Children's ER instead.  I felt the most frantic while we were "in transit" and waiting.

Children's was really fantastic and all the nurses were very calm and loving.  Evelyn was relaxed and chattering away through most of this time until they strapped her in to an immobilizing pappoose to begin the stitches.

Two stiches later and with a few mintues to calm down she was back to her sweet, upbeat and inquisitive self.  They brought her a red, white and blue popsicle and she thought that was the coolest!  When she signed "more"... I think she was referring to wanting another taste of the popsicle instead of more stitches... sorry, have to have a little humor to break the mood.

All is well now.  We will have to see whether there will be permanent scarring because the split lip extended below the lip line and apperently it is really difficult to align the lip line border in regular cases - especially more difficult with a 13 month old. Sorry... no pictures.

I am so glad that she is okay and that there is a funny side to remember with a scary story! Give her a big hug and kiss for me and let her know red, white and blue popsicles are my favorite, I would be happy to share one with her anytime (with mom and dad's approval of course). Love love!
